Antioxidant research is being undertaken in laboratories, universities and private research facilities the world over. It keeps finding the same overall results antioxidant consumption in foods and whole food supplements will keep you living longer and healthier. Antioxidant research examines or is examining every vegetable and fruit to see which one helps which condition the best. But the results are clear eating the fruits, vegetables and other nutrients which are antioxidants help to reverse and ward off heart disease, cancer and a myriad of diseases.

Antioxidant research shows that the antioxidant molecule slows or prevents the oxidation of other molecules. The body oxidizes cells as a matter of course. However, it is when to many cells are oxidized at the same time do to the absence of antioxidant fighting nutrition molecules which when present in sufficient quantities help slow and control the process. The process of too many damaged cells has come to be known as the cascade effect. If you line up dominoes all over a room and tip over the first one they will cascade down the line until interrupted or they reach the end.

If this happens in your body the cascading causes cell injury and cell death. To much of this effect can cause disease. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing or neutralizing free radicals. They can also inhibit or interrupt the cascade by putting themselves in harms way and becoming oxidized themselves. Antioxidant research is being done to find the foods that will stop the cascade effect and looking for new and better ways of delivery.

Oxidation reactions are critical to all life. Research has found that this is why plants and animals maintain very complex systems of different kinds of antioxidants in their foods like Vitamins C and E and enzymes. An absence of the antioxidant molecule cause oxidative stress and endangers the plants or animals health.

The plant and animal kingdom has an instinct base while the human being is free will based. The animal for instance does not comprehend what an antioxidant is. The animal just eats the right thing for its system. The human on the other hand eats what ever he or she wants. Research on antioxidants has set out to better find and prove what the animal kingdom including humans has known all along fruits and vegetables is what we should be eating not highly processed foods.
