Barley Grass
Complete Super Food

Barley grass is classified as a super food. This grass has more potential benefits than the average food source. Barley is primarily used as a cereal grain by commercial food processors and of course is a main ingredient of the beer industry.

Barley like Chlorella have high concentrations of chlorophyll. This high concentration has beneficial effects on cholesterol, blood pressure, cancer and the immune system. The concentrated effect gives many more nutrients per ounce than does other green vegetables like lettuce, spinach etc.

This grass is often compared to and combined with wheat grass. When the plants are young in grass form they are very high in phytonutrients but as they age they change dramatically. They quickly lose the chlorophyll, the protein content and their vitamin strength. As they become the waving grain fields they increase in fiber content and become kernels which the processed food industry uses in breads, crackers, processed cereals and most everything else. These food grasses which started out as super foods are now an unhealthy pro inflammatory food. A very high percentage of the U.S. population has wheat allergies plus the processed wheat causes inflammation everywhere in the body. This inflammation is thought to be one of the key causes of all disease in recent research.

This super green food is a free radical scavenger (antioxidant) that can reduce inflammation and pain. This is why we use barley in our formulas along with other super foods such as buckwheat, chlorella, alfalfa and rye among others. Harvesting grasses at a very young age also preserves the enzyme content which is much lower than in mature plants.
