Ferulic Acid Protects Against Alzheimer’s

Ferulic Acid is found in our old friend the blueberry and other foods. This antioxidant neutralizes free radicals like other antioxidants but has two actions it takes that other antioxidants do not. This antioxidant increases it’s potency when it interacts with ultra violet light thus protecting the largest organ the skin against free radical damage.

Possibly the most important interaction so far found is this antioxidants ability to interact with nerve tissue especially the brain. In a study in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry it was found in animal tests that a high dose of this antioxidant acid prevented adverse affects in the brain from beta amyloid peptide which is the protein now believed to impair memory in Alzheimer’s disease.
This antioxidant also has the talent to reduce cholesterol because it is found in rice bran. Rice bran has a chemical called gamma oryzanol which is the cholesterol lowering agent. In the American Journal of Hypertension it was shown to reduce hypertension in animals.

As I said before this is a rather obscure antioxidant that is undergoing massive testing and the results are being published in rapid succession. Here are some of the conditions Ferulic Acid may contribute to helping the body cure.

• Hypertension
• Alzheimer’s disease
• Colon and breast cancer
• Ultraviolet radiation protection
• Cholesterol (raises HDL)
• Arthritis (it is an anti-inflammatory)

The foods that Ferulic Acid is found in are;
Blueberries
• Bilberry
• Gingko Biloba
• Plums
• Pineapple
• Corn
• Pine Bark
• Corn
• Bee propolis
• Artemisia (herb)
• Rice Bran
