Liposomes ?? Vitamin C Becomes 390% More Absorbable
First a little background on liposomes. Under an electron microscope you can see that liposomes are like tiny bubbles or round balloons. The outside of the liposome is made of a lipid mixture—similar to how your own cells are made. In fact, when liposomes were invented they were called artificial cells. The lipid (lipids are the general name of oil-like substances) is arranged in such a way that the water soluble nutrition is protected inside the lipid wall (the liposome). These “balloons” can be filled with water soluble nutrients. In this case, they are filled with vitamin C. You might wonder why anyone would bother putting a nutrient inside a bubble. Here is why: 1. They can protect a given nutrient so that it (a) does not degrade before absorption and (b) they can also protect the stomach from that nutrient if the nutrient might otherwise bother the stomach. To illustrate: large doses of vitamin C can cause diarrhea, so if it is put in a liposome, the gut tolerance goes up and more can be taken. The applications for this are immense. Another illustration: Glutathione doesn’t bother the stomach, but it does degrade immediately in the gut—so putting glutathione in a liposome could protect it and allow an oral dose of a product, glutathione, that otherwise can only be taken by injection. Again, the applications are immense. By the way, our glutathione liposomes are about three months away—we are perfecting the stability right now. 2. They can increase total absorption several fold. If a liposome is around 100 nanometers then the liposome can fit through the tight junctions in the gut and go directly to the blood. Larger liposomes will still have some benefits but the benefits will decrease significantly over approximately 500 nanometers. The liver opens these tiny packets, releasing the payload into the blood. While I have not seen definitive research on the subject, one claim I have seen mentions that vitamin C has a 19% absorption rate into the bloodstream. It claims that liposomes have a 93% absorption rate into the blood. That is a 390% increase. If that claim is correct, it would work this way:1,000 mg vitamin C tablet or capsuleAbsorption 19% = 190 mg into blood streamCost per 100 mg regular vitamin C absorbed: 12.5 cents
1,000 mg liposomal vitamin C (7/8th tsp)Absorption 93% = 930 mg into blood streamCost per 100 mg liposomal vitamin C absorbed: 9.2 cents When you look at blood levels, this technology actually saves money and you can get incredible amounts into the blood stream without the risk of diarrhea which will occur long before you can absorb even 1,500 mg into the blood stream from traditional tablets or capsules. Again, we want to independently verify the absorption rate—what we do know is that the liposomes MUST be around 100 nanometers diameter for optimal absorption. The fact is, we have not seen other liposome supplements even discuss the size of their liposomes, because they don’t appear to have the technology to achieve the 100 nanometer size. Think about that. 3. Properly designed liposomes (ours) can have tremendous health benefits, even if they were only filled with water. This is because the liposome is made of phosphatidyl choline (PC) which is a major component of all cell walls of your body. Cell wall integrity is a key to cell health. Each cell must maintain proper permeability to allow nutrients in and to push waste out. If the cell wall is either too permeable or not permeable enough, the cell loses energy and dies sooner than expected. Further, PC is very beneficial to the liver and is involved in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. One customer took a double dose every evening (just once a day) for six weeks and lowered her cholesterol from 280 to 216. Conclusion:The size difference between ours and the others is remarkable. In liposomes, size matters. The only way to get the right size is to have the right technology AND the right lipid ingredients. It seems a shame to pay for liposomes and get something else. The other two companies are the big two manufacturers. They have been selling product for 4 or more years and no one has had the equipment to check to see if they really make liposomes. They may even make a fairly small liposome to begin with. By the time their product reaches the consumer it is around 2500 to 4600 microns. This isn’t even in the ballpark for size. If we say that 200 nanometers is the absolute upper limit for optimal liposome size, then the other products are 13 to 23 times too large! It is my opinion that their products are made of inexpensive materials instead of the expensive PC. That explains why their liposomes are more like grease than liposomes. It took us 3 ½ years to perfect this technology and the formulation in order to make stable, tiny liposomes. This is a totally new supplement form that offers almost unlimited benefit potential for health and longevity. VERY IMPORTANT: If you intend on taking large doses (over 1000 mg per day) long term (more than a few days), please be aware of this important fact: Very high doses of C over time cause the body to 'awaken' dormant enzyme systems that more fully utilize high doses of the nutrient. If a person suddenly stops taking the high doses they can actually get symptoms of scurvy because the enzymes will have found so many uses for vitamin C that it will all be used up. So please TAPER off, lowering the dose by 1 or 2 grams per day over several days or a couple weeks.
